Angelo Mathews precluded of Bangladesh Tri-Series 2017-18

Looks like Angelo Mathews would need some more rest before enjoying his second innings as the captain of Sri Lanka. One again hamstring injury has got the better of Mathews that has eventually ruled him out of the 2017-18 Bangladesh Tri-Series. In fact, Mathews is out of action for the next three weeks. In the previous match against Bangladesh, Dinesh Chandimal donned the captaincy hat.
Now, Chandimal will take over the mantle from Mathews for the remaining series. Mathews is also likely to be away from the first Test against Bangladesh that commences from January 31.

A Sri Lanka cricket official provided the latest update on Mathews’ injury to cricbuzz, “Angelo is coming back to Colombo to do his rehab. We will look at when he can rejoin the squad depending on his fitness. We will try and see if he can take any part in the Test series, but at the moment it looks unlikely.”
Sri Lanka did have Sadeera Samarawickrama as a cover. However, Sri Lanka management are against sending him as a replacement, “We took 16 players for the tour and now we are left with 15 players and the team management is confident that they can manage with what they have.”
