IPL 2024 | 125 in 6 overs: Head and Sunrisers shatter T20 powerplay records

IPL 2024 | 125 in 6 overs: Head and Sunrisers shatter T20 powerplay records

Here are all the stats from Sunrisers 67's stunning win over Capitals at the Delhi Grounds.

Sunrisers Hyderabad's total of 125 for 0 at the end of the sixth over is now the highest in a match in men's T20 cricket (where ball-by-ball data is available). They smashed Nottinghamshire's record 106-0 against Durham at Trent Bridge in 2017. The previous highest in the IPL was 105 for 0 by Kolkata Knight Riders against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2017.

4.6 Overs required for Sunrisers to reach the 100-run mark. This is the fastest team in 100 men T20 history with ball-by-ball data available. The previous fastest was 5.3 overs for South Africa against West Indies in 2023 at Centurion. The previous fastest 100 by a team in IPL was 5.6 overs by Knight Riders against Royal Challengers in 2017 and Chennai Super Kings against Kings XI Punjab in 2014.

Travis Head's score of 84 in the showdown is now the second highest in this phase in a men's T20 innings (where ball-by-ball data is available). The highest is 87 by Suresh Raine in a 2014 qualifier against Kings XI.

The 16 balls it took Head to get his fifty is now Sunrisers' fastest in the IPL. He equaled the record set by Abhishek Sharma against Mumbai Indians earlier this season.

The 24 boundaries hit by Sunrisers in the clash are the most by any T20 men's team (where ball-by-ball data is available). They surpassed the 20 boundaries the Sri Lankans achieved against Sussex in 2014. Sunrisers' 11 maximums in the first six overs are the highest by any team.

The partnership run rate of 20.68 between Head and Abhishek is by far the highest of 283 century stands in the IPL. The previous highest was 17.02 between Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine against RCB in 2017 when they added 105 in 6.1 overs for the first wicket.

It is also the second highest run rate in any century in the men's T20 class, behind the 21.31 by Shamar Brooks and Imad Wasim, who added 103* in 4.5 overs for CPL 2022's fifth wicket.

Sunrisers desperately need to reach 150 runs to complete their brilliant innings in 8.4 overs. Which is the lowest innings by any team in men's T20. The previous fastest was 9.2 over for Worcestershire v Northamptonshire in 2018 and against Durham in 2019.

Sunrisers' 158 for 4 at the halfway mark is the highest for any IPL team at the end of the decade, bettering the 148 for two against Mumbai Indians earlier this season. It is also the second highest in men's T20s for which data is available, behind Worcestershire's 162 for 0 against Northamptonshire in 2018.

The number of sixes that Sunrisers have hit in the Delhi grounds is 22. Which is the highest number of innings by any team in the IPL. Which equals the record achieved in all previous matches in the matches involving RCB Bengaluru.

3 Over 250 for Sunrisers in IPL, ahead of Royal Challengers. Sunrisers are only the second team after Surrey to have three 250-plus men in T20 cricket.

2 Delhi Capitals became the first team to concede more than 250 twice in IPL. Middlesex, Sri Lanka and West Indies are the other teams to have conceded more than 250 twice in men's T20.

Jack Fraser McGurk desperately needed 15 balls to complete his brilliant innings fifty. It is now the fourth-fastest fifty ever in the IPL and the fastest by the Capitals, bettering Chris Morris' 17-ball effort against Gujarat Lions in 2016.

The 213 runs put together by Sunrisers and Capitals in Saturday's clash is by far the most in men's T20s (where ball-by-ball data is available). The previous was 174 runs by Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire in 2017, while the previous highest in the IPL was 170 by Super Kings and Kings XI in 2014. Capitals' chase of 88 is their highest total in the IPL.

Kuldeep Yadav's 55 runs in his four overs are the most by any bowler who has taken four or more wickets in men's T20s. The previous highest score of 54 runs was scored by Kiran Vir Singh in 2024. In addition, Aftab Alam made it in 2017.
